About Missionary Sponsorship Fund: Haiti: Jacmel: Mulligan Family

Stephen and I (Carrie) are from small-town Iowa and have been married for six years. We both graduated from the University of Northern Iowa. With a degree in construction management, Stephen has worked for an architecture firm as a project manager for the last seven years. My degree is in elementary education and over the past few years I have had the privilege of being a stay-at-home mom. We’ve been blessed with three amazing children: three-year-old twins Grady and Ella, and Mikah, our spunky two-year-old daughter. Being parents is one of our greatest joys in life, yet the Lord has recently been burdening our hearts for the millions of children without a mom and dad.

God started planting the seeds of passion for global missions on both of our hearts while we were still dating in college. At that time we had the opportunity to go on a couple mission trips together through our local church. In 2006, a year after we were married, we experienced our first trip to Haiti where our church had partnered with a hospital mission. We both instantly fell in love with the Haitian people and culture. We believe it was on that trip that, unbeknown to us, God started preparing us for full-time work in Haiti. A year later we ended up at the Hands & Feet Project through some God-ordained circumstances and have been going back almost every year since.

Over the past year, God has been specifically burdening our hearts for the orphan in a way that has moved us to follow Him on an incredible adventure with the Hands & Feet Project. The Lord has been revealing to us that He is deeply vested in the plight of the orphan. Just as we were orphaned and God sought US and adopted us into His eternal family, he cares so deeply for these children. Isaiah 1:17 says to “defend the cause of the fatherless.” He calls us to join in His passion for the orphan, to be His hands and feet and to bring the love of Jesus Christ to each of them. It is purely out of our passion for our Lord and Savior that we have compassion for these children.

Stephen and I truly believe the best place for a child is with a permanent mom and a dad, but due to the vast needs/circumstances across the country of Haiti know that is not always possible. We feel that God has called us to partner with the Hands & Feet project to advocate for these children and give them the love of a family. Our prayer is that they may grow up and know Jesus Christ as their savior and be a part of changing the future of their country. With our backgrounds in construction administration and education, as well as being parents, we feel that God has presented us with an exciting and unique opportunity to use the gifts He’s given us to love and serve the fatherless in Haiti.
